Even though travel agencies and television commercials tend to stereotype
Australia geographically, their expanding music scene is steadily proving
that residing "down under" doesn't necessarily equate being buried or
in a state of musical hibernation. Take the Newsboys for example, who
combine a Southern California, early Undercover/Lifters vibe with Elim
Hall-type vocals which make their debut Read All About It a convenient
listening package. Producers Tommy Simms (from White Heart) and Dave
Perkins (not from White Heart) allow this youthsome quartet to breathe
through danceable tracks such as "Lighthouse," "Read All About It" and
the infectious sing-a-long "It's Joy." One cut in particular, "You're
Still There," could be a big smash on radio with its methodical, yet
hypnotic up-tempo ballad characteristics. With its high pogo factor,
comfortable blend of tender and tough discourses and solid production,
Read All About It not only delivers straight to the front door of your
heart but also avoids being just another album to throw on the "barbie."
