Watching Over You

Inpop 8517382 CD Book (Alliance Music)

CCM buffs will know New Zealand-born Phil is a member of the Newsboys while Cross Rhythms radio listeners will recognise the hooky "God Is Watching Over You" reminder that God is watching our every action. Phil's solo debut contains 10 well produced tracks that cover a number of various musical moods and styles. "God Is Watching Over You" features great harmonies and a lilting pop melody while more great Bvs lift "Tonight". The various styles of rock and pop and not forgetting those more personal songs are all memorable. Phil wrote "Be Number One" with a number of friends when he was 17 - he calls it his priority checking song. The pressures of being homesick for his native land the strong bond of commitment between him and his wife to fulfilling God's plans are reflected in the final track, "Together". The first line of the chorus sums it up with "Together, on the wrong side of the world." A most enjoyable album, with lots of good stuff.

reviewer's rating: 9/10 ["excellent"]
