Casting Pearls
Inpop POD1357
This American rock trio from Nebraska have been together six or seven
years now. The band's leader Bryan Olesen is also a member of the Newsboys.
The Pearls' debut national release has no expense spared when it came
to production with a Grammy Award winning team and guest vocalists including
Phil Joel from the Newsboys. My only question is with such elaborate
measures in production, guest performances and song writing what is
left of the band's own originality? I guess a live show will have to
prove that. It's the smooth and strong vocals from Bryan Olesen and
guitar-driven melodies that make this record a pleasant rock listen.
First single "Alright" is a hook heavy tune with a message
of hope reminding people that there is something to live for. The band
recreates Tim Hughes' "Whole World In His Hands" adding their
own sound setting it apart from the original. "Revolution"
really adds energy to the album through Olesen's funky voice and a catchy
guitar hook. Its straightforward lyrics create a clear message of stepping
up and becoming the revolution. While the record will mostly keep you
listening and engaged, there are a few filler songs that you will quickly
skip over. With a mostly up beat album Casting Pearls and crew have
delivered a well produced memorable record.
reviewer's rating: 8/10 ["very good indeed"]
