Reflection #1 on "WooHoo" by Newsboys [song lyrics]
|
||||||
I call it killing the fool To save your life you gotta lose it So the people sing Have you ever been called a fool? I have. I remember a time when one of my very best friends said, "Suzy, you just let that person run over you. You are a fool." Well, she was upset at the way this person was treating me. But the person was my pastor, and I had told the Lord that I would serve this man as long as the Lord wanted me to. Was I frustrated and upset? Did I get angry and have to walk the floor fighting critical thoughts and bitter ideas? Yes. A million times, yes. It would have been much easier to throw in the towel. I wanted to give this man a piece of my mind and walk away. But that was not the way of the Lord. I am a servant of Jesus. I serve at His discretion, not my own. And I serve others as I would serve Him. To those who don't understand the strength it takes to yield your will to the Lord's, living like this can look like weakness or foolishness. But as the Newsboys sing in the song "WooHoo," this is just killing the fool. "Whoever tries to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it" (Luke 17:33, NIV). God preserved my life. It took a few months, but the Lord turned that situation around and brought a great blessing to my life out of it. I look back now, and I am so glad that I spent those sleepless nights resisting bitter thoughts and angry plans. I am so glad that I did not let the wrongs done to me by others pollute my relationship with the Lord. Was it tough? Oh yes. But when the smoke cleared, the Lord and I came out well. Are you experiencing something that requires you to "lose your life," that is, to give up your rights and your ways? If the situation requires you to discipline yourself and do what God's Word commands, then rejoice. Because when it is all over, your life will be preserved and then you will join with the Newsboys and sing "WooHoo!" --Suzy C. Scripture Reference: Luke 17:33 |
