Reflection #1 on "Gloria (All God's Children)" by Paul Colman  [song lyrics]

Paul Colman - ''let it go'' (2005)

Sing Gloria, sing Gloria

In Paul Colman's song "Gloria," he urges us to glorify God. In order to better understand what that means, I used my thesaurus to find synonyms for "glorify." Get a load of these words—worship, adore, lionize, exalt, deify, elevate, venerate and praise. Wow

So "Gloria" is encouraging us to praise God, to worship Him, to exalt Him in song. And I would add to honor Him.

Paul Colman begins the first stanza with a reminder that mankind has much in common. He sings that we all walk, breathe, feel the rain; we are all created by God. We all have a heart. We all have blood. And then he hits us with this biblical truth:

We all wear the same wrong

The Bible puts it this way—"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23, NIV). And Scripture goes on to teach us the devastating result of sin: "the wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23, NIV).

But that realization—that I am a sinner condemned to death—is suddenly and gloriously dissolved in the next line.

But we're covered by God's holy one

And that is Christ, God's own Son, holy and untouched by sin—Christ who came to give His life as payment for my sins.

Revelation 1:5-6 says, "Jesus Christ…loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood" (NIV).

All my sins are washed away

Revelation 1:5-6 goes on to proclaim: "to him be glory and power for ever and ever" (NIV).

We have many things in common, and as Christians we all have reason to praise, to give honor, to glorify God. Listen to "Gloria" and raise your voice to glorify your Savior.
