Reflection #2 on "I Adore You" by Phil Joel [song lyrics]

To the prisoner inside Do you sometimes think, I wish I knew everything? Well, not me! For example, I'm sure I would not want to know what others were thinking about me all the time. I once got an evaluation from a student that read, "Cut your hair!" While I did take his advice, it still seemed an odd comment about the class. But there have been times in my life when I really wanted to know some things, especially about the future. Our society seems plagued by this right now. People consult horoscopes and psychics. They even want to ask dead people about the future! (What would a dead person know about the future?) The Bible promises us it's the Holy Spirit who will lead us and guide us into the truth and show us things to come. "But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come" (John 16:13 NASB). But even though we are promised the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the disclosure of things to come, that doesn't mean we will know everything. The Bible says the just will live by faith (Habakkuk 2:4, Romans 1:17, Galatians 3:11, Hebrews 10:38). Faith functions in the realm of the unseen. "Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen" (Hebrews 11:1 NASB). I can't tell you how many times I have had to tell myself, "Suzy, if you knew everything you wouldn't need faith." And I would not have such a wonderful relationship with the Lord: learning to trust Him has made me love Him even more. Phil Joel sings a song about this called "I Adore You." My
favorite line in the song is, "I will trust in You far beyond this
line of sight." I will wait for You --Suzy C. Scripture Reference: John 16:13; Hebrews 11:1 |
